17 EN 407 - THERMAL RISKS (HEAT) This standard specifies the thermal performance of gloves to protect against heat and fire hazards. The pictogram is accompanied by six performance levels. EN 407 ABCDEF Protective gloves for welders have to be in accordance with the requirements of EN 388 and EN 407. In addition, other minimum lengths apply (see hand measurement page 13). A difference is made between two types of welding gloves: Type A - heavy welding work (MIG / MAG / electric) Performance levels Type B - welding work with high finger flexibility (WIG) A - limited flame training Level 1 - 4 The time is measured in which the material continues to burn or glow after the fire source is removed. The seams must not dissolve after a fire time of 15 seconds. B - contact heat Level 1 - 4 The temperature (100° - 500°C), against which the glove protects for 15 seconds without becoming more than 10°C warmer on the inside is measured. C - convective heat Level 1 - 4 The time until the inside of the glove warms up to 24°C after the glove has been exposed to a gas flame is measured. D - radiant heat Level 1 - 4 The time until the inside of the glove warms up to 24°C after the glove has been exposed to a gas heater is measured. E - small splashes of molten metal Level 1 - 4 The number of necessary drops to raise the temperature on the inside of the glove to 40°C is measured. F - large quantities of liquid metal Level 1 - 4 The amount of liquid metal necessary to damage a PVC film attached to the inside of the glove is measured. A 0 means "not passed". Level X stands for "Not tested" or "Not relevant" - e.g. 413X4X. EN 12447 - REQUIREMENTS FOR WELDING GLOVES If no performance level is specified for the burning behaviour (A), e.g. X2XXXX, the following pictogram is used: Requirements EN standard Minimum performance level TYPE A TYPE B Abrasion resistance 388 2 1 Cut resistance 388 1 1 Tear resistance 388 2 1 Puncture resistance 388 2 1 Burning behaviour 407 3 2 Contact heat 407 1 1 Convective heat 407 2 - Small metal splashes 407 3 2 Finger flexibility 420 1 4 Symbol description HEAT & FIRE Our welding gloves are marked with the following icon guides: M MIG / MAG W WIG E Electric
