Industrial power brushes Filament materials and their application Wire filament ■ Crimped brushes (wavy wire): for work with particular requirements on the flexibility of the brushes, such as machining of highly contoured workpieces. ■ Knotted brushes (straight wire): for work that requires aggressive brushing behaviour, such as work on weld seams. Steel wire (ST, LIT ST) Advantages/properties: ■ PFERD TOOLS special wire with high tensile strength and bending fatigue strength. ■ Guarantees a long tool life, even for extreme brushing applications. ■ Temperature resistance: up to 300°C Stainless steel wire (INOX, LIT INOX) Advantages/properties: ■ Wire quality 1.4310/1.4301 (V2A): stainless; does not leave corroding residues on the workpiece. ■ Used with low rotational speeds, compared to steel wire. ■ PFERD TOOLS brushes with INOX filament are usually degreased. ■ Temperature resistance: up to 450°C Stainless steel wire (INOX) diamond (DIA) Advantages/properties: ■ Particularly well suited to applications that place particular demands on the aggressiveness of the brush. ■ Primarily used on materials with high material strength. ■ Temperature resistance: up to 450°C Brass wire (MES) Advantages/properties: ■ Wire quality CuZn37: brass wire is softer than steel wire. ■ It is non-sparking and produces fine surface finishes. ■ Temperature resistance: up to 180°C 8 Plastic filament ■ Abrasive grains are embedded in flexible plastic filaments, which means that the filament works on the sides as well as at the tip. ■ Round filament: for applications that place particular demands on the flexibility of the brush. ■ Rectangular filament (REC): for applications that place particular demands on the aggressiveness of the brush. ■ Recommendation for use: Use coolant for applications where large amounts of heat are produced. Silicon carbide (SiC) Advantages/properties: ■ Particularly well suited to deburring work and for improving surfaces. ■ Temperature resistance up to 220°C Aluminium oxide (AO) Advantages/properties: ■ Less sharp-edged and aggressive compared with SiC. ■ Primarily suitable for polishing and smoothing finishes on soft metals. ■ Temperature resistance up to 220°C Ceramic oxide grain (CO) Advantages/properties: ■ Offers good toughness and excellent sharpness. ■ For high stock removal and aggressive brushing. ■ Temperature resistance up to 220°C Diamond (DIA) Advantages/properties: ■ Particularly well suited to applications that place particular demands on the aggressiveness of the brush. ■ Primarily used on materials with high material strength. ■ Temperature resistance up to 220°C Nylon Advantages/properties: ■ Particularly suited to working with materials that would otherwise be scratched or damaged, e.g. soft plastics. ■ Temperature resistance up to 220°C Natural bristles ■ Primarily suitable for light cleaning and dust removal, as well as for polishing (in combination with polishing pastes). White (SBW) and black (SBS) bristles Advantages/properties: ■ Bristles are harder and less flexible than brushes with goat hair filament. ■ Temperature resistance: up to 150°C Goat hair (ZHW) Advantages/properties: ■ Goat hair is more flexible and softer than bristle. ■ Temperature resistance: up to 150°C 6|8 Catalogue
