JOINT CUTTER INFO MICROTRENCHING What is Microtrenching ? Microtrenching is a cost-effective alternative to conventional civil engineering. During the expansion and modernization of communication networks, trenches are milled in roads or sidewalks in order to lay fiber optic cables. This trench only has the required width and height for the material to be laid. A large-scale opening of the asphalt, which would entail an enormous expenditure of time and money and would be particularly difficult in urban areas, is not required with this variant. The microtrenching process can reduce cable laying costs by up to 75%. In addition, roads that are otherwise blocked over a long period of time can be quickly reopened. This method avoids the problem of bagging the filling materials when the asphalt is open over a large area. A trench with a maximum width of 30 mm and a maximum depth of 300 mm is cut into the road. Empty pipes are then laid into which glass fibre pipes are blown. Advantages of Microtrenching 1. No torn cutting edges due to diamond saw blades In contrast to trench cutters, where the surface is milled with carbide bits, the joint cutter uses diamond saw blades. This is an advantage, as the carbide chisel process often results in torn cutting edges. This effect is significantly reduced by the „grinding process“ of the diamond saw blades. 2. Trench widths can be adjusted individually In CEDIMA microtrenching, several saw blades are placed next to each other until the desired trench width is achieved. Depending on the requirements, the widths can vary and it is possible to lay different types of cables at the same time. Would you like to see CEDIMA-Microtrenching in action?
