HISTORY / LOCATIONS INGENIOUS: AN INVENTION TAKES THE WORLD BY STORM “Then I’ll just have to make it myself,” Erwin HALDER may well have said when the company in which he was working in the late 1930s took no interest in his invention. Becoming selfemployed was the starting signal for the global triumph of the SIMPLEX soft-face mallets. The principle was and remains as simple as it is clever: Using easily interchangeable inserts of different degrees of hardness, the mallets can be individually adapted to the material on which they are to be used. The advantage is that the workpiece can be treated far more gently and precisely, whilst the strain on the joints of the user is also reduced. The product range has undergone continuous expansion over the years. Alongside numerous versions of the SIMPLEX soft-face mallets, it now includes “SUPERCRAFT” non-rebound mallets as well as tools for forestry, totalling around 350 individual items.
