For HSS drills with a split point, the centre punching can be omitted. For larger hole diameters pre-drill with a smaller drill bit.
3. Speed: To protect the drill bit, drill hard metal at low speed and with low pressure. For softer metals, use a higher speed. Reduce pressure before breakthrough.
4. Cooling: Cool drill bit. In the case of long holes, lift out the drill several times and add coolant; take breaks during drilling, as necessary.

Bohrerauswahl: Für Metalle: Metallbohrer aus Hochleistungs-Schnellschnittstahl (HSS) verwenden. Hartmetall oder Edelstahl: Metallbohrer mit Titanbeschichtung oder aus einer Kobaltlegierung.
2. Ankörnen: Bohrstelle durch Anreißen mit einer Reißnadel markieren. Einen gehärteten Körnerstift ansetzen und Bohrstelle mit einem kurzen Hammerschlag ankörnen - so kann der Bohrer nicht abrutschen. Bei HSS-Bohrern mit Kreuzanschliff kann das Ankörnen entfallen. Bei großen Bohrdurchmessern mit kleinerem Bohrer vorbohren.
3. Drehzahl: Zur Schonung des Bohrers, hartes Metall bei niedriger Drehzahl und mit geringem Druck bohren. Für weichere Metalle höhere Drehzahl verwenden. Vor dem Durchbruch Druck reduzieren.
4. Kühlen: Bohrer kühlen. Bei langen Bohrungen Bohrer mehr-fach anheben und Kühlflüssigkeit zuführen, ev. Bohrpausen einlegen.
