Sd (m): Äquivalente Luftschicht; diese gibt die Größe der Luftschichtdicke an, die dem Durchgang von Dampf (durch Diffusion) den gleichen Widerstand entgegenbringen würde wie das betreffende Produkt bzw. die Konstruktion. Ein weiterer Parameter, der die Wasserdampfdiffusionskapazität der Produkte beschreibt, ist die Wasserdampfdurchlässigkeit und kann in US perm, μg/Ns und g/m224h ausgedrückt werden. Die Einstufung der Bahnen wird nicht durch eine eindeutige Norm definiert, sondern, abhängig von ihrem Sd-Wert, durch verschiedene nationale Normen in unterschiedlicher Weise.
