LABOUR AND REGULATORY SYSTEMS WITH A BIG IMPACT Best practice: Schmidt + Clemens GmbH + Co. KG in Lindlar Schmidt + Clemens GmbH + Co KG is the world market leader in pipe systems for the petrochemical industry. Extremely high quality standards and demanding customers require highly specialised employees. For this reason, Schmidt + Clemens relies on needs-based training for young people at its German headquarters in Lindlar. When the training workshop was to be newly equipped, Schmidt + Clemens asked Thomas Kind GmbH from Gummersbach, the long-standing OTTOKIND specialist trade and competence partner. 30 workplaces were to be configured. Uniformly designed according to the 5S method in lean management, i.e. according to the principles of systematic work organisation. The aim was to reduce the workplaces to the essentials. They were to be tidy, clean and clearly arranged in order to promote work discipline and improve work processes. OTTOKIND workbenches, drawer units and wardrobes were chosen. Modular design, stability, robustness, durability - the functional and high-quality products pay off even after years of intensive use in everyday training, as Uwe Leimbach, training manager at Schmidt + Clemens, already knew from his own practical experience. The new workbenches in the training workshop are bolted together and in rows, have height-adjustable vices and C-profiles for electrical and compressed air connections. The central component of each workstation is a workbench with a robust multiplex worktop. Modular, functional workplace systems from a single mould. 8 The stable base with lockable tool drawer, doors and a shelf provides sufficient storage space. Practical workbench superstructures with hangers and shelves allow a clearly structured arrangement of the file assortment at handle height. „Everything from a single source according to this motto, we accompany customers holistically in setting up high-quality workplaces.“ Natascha Hein, Managing Partner Thomas Kind GmbH The company is particularly proud of the innovative drawer design, a custom-made product. The drawers are equipped with a hard foam insert that has suitable cut-outs for the tools. Hammer, file and special tools cannot slip and are quickly within reach. „With this system, you are comwithted to order,“ says Thomas Kind Managing Director Natascha Hein, underlining the great benefit of the so-called toolboard insert. The work and organisation systems save tedious and unproductive searching for tools - and thus precious time. Productivity is improved and efficiency in the work process increases. The systems also offer immediate monetary savings potential, because surplus tools or missing stock can be identified immediately. The new clarity in the Schmidt + Clemens training workshop led to unexpected cost savings. „Temporarily lost“ tools worth 18,000 euros could be returned to the factory!
