Stripping Cable stripping and insulation removal Once the cable has been cut to the required length, the next step is to ensure the insulation is removed properly from the area where the connection will be made. If multiple insulated conductors are enclosed in one cable, then it will be necessary to expose these for stripping without also damaging their insulation. The process of removing one or more outer cable sheaths is known as de-sheathing. RENNSTEIG produces professional de-sheathing tools that allow users to adjust the cutting depth of the blades easily to the outer layers that need to be removed. To prepare for a crimp connection, the inner conductors must be properly stripped. The aim here is to ensure the insulation is removed completely to the required length without causing any damage to the conductor material itself. Modern cables present a number of challenges for de-sheathing and stripping solutions.
