“In f o r m at i on on pr od u c t lia b ility ” In accordance with the liability defined in the Product Liability Act § 4 and the manufacturer’s obligations for their products (§ 3 para. 2 Product Safety Act), the following information about wheels and castors must be observed. Non-compliance releases the manufacturer from all liability. We point out that the technical data in this catalogue can be subject to modifications. 1.0 Product information and intended usage Wheels and castors in terms of this definition are generally replaceable components which are installed on devices, furniture and transport systems or similar products for the purpose of making them mobile. This product information is based on wheels and castors, and on passively steered castors (swivel castors) in particular, for vehicles and devices not moved automatically – in the following referred to as objects – which are typically moved at speeds not exceeding walking speed (4 km/h) and not in continuous operation. Wheels and castors in terms of this product information can be divided into the following fields of application: Living area, e.g. seating furniture, living room furniture Service sector – general service sector, e.g. shopping trolleys, office machines Hospital sector Industrial sector, e.g. transport equipment requiring medium and heavy load-bearing capacities In particular, proper use includes professional installation: a) The product must be firmly connected to the object at all points intended for this purpose. b) The object must have sufficient strength at these points. c) The assembly must not impair the product’s function. d) Swivel castors must be installed in a way that their pivotal axle is vertical. e) Fixed castors must be installed in a way that their wheel axles are aligned with each other. f) Only identical swivel castors may be used on the same object. Any installed fixed castors must solely be those recommended by the manufacture. Products must be ordered in special designs for damp areas, direct exposure to weather, near the ocean or for use in aggressive corrosive environments. It should also be noted that for use outside the standard temperature ranges specified in this catalogue, wheels and castors of special design must be ordered. Standard products must never be operated at a rated load under these conditions. Caution: Castors with soft treads must not be used on unsealed absorbent substrates such as stone, wood or parquet. The white oil found in TPE castors resulting from the production process can leak out and lead to contact discolouration. This oil evaporates from sealed floors without leaving any residues. Grease may leak from the rotating assembly or bearing at high temperatures. Please check floor compatibility before use. On softwood, cork or similar floor coverings, all castors may leave indentations or streaks. Wheel, housing, locking device and axle accessories form a single functional unit. We are liable solely for our original products. All possible loads must be known for the selection of castors. They must otherwise use adequate safety margins. 2.0 Misuse Misuse – i.e. the use of wheels and castors for a purpose which they are not intended for – occurs, for example, if: 2.1 The wheels and castors are used with a higher load than the maximum load-bearing capacity indicated in the catalogue. 2.2 They are used on unsuitable, uneven floors. 2.3 The environmental temperatures are too high or too low. 2.4 A unit with locked castors is moved by force or the locking device is used as a driving brake. 2.5 Particularly aggressive media can have an effect. 2.6 Improper major impacts and damage due to falling over. 2.7 Foreign bodies can penetrate the wheel bandages. 2.8 The wheels and castors are used at an excessively high speed. 2.9 Changes are made which were not approved by the manufacturer. 2.10 Mechanical damage is caused by an external impact or collision. 3.0 Product performance If the product performance is not concretely specified in our catalogues, pamphlets, performance descriptions, etc., then the requirements for our castors and their components must be agreed on with us. The relevant DIN, ISO and EN standards are to be used as the guiding principles here 4.0 Product maintenance Depending on the demands, wheels and castors must be routinely serviced - by regreasing bearing points - by readjusting detachable connections Suitable greases must be used; in the case of heat-resistant wheels and castors, heat-resistant greases must be used No cleaning agents having corrosion-promoting or damaging components may be used. Castors and their components must be replaced as soon as functional disturbances occur. 5.0 Informational and instruction duties The following options are available for fulfilling the informational and instruction duties and the maintenance work in accordance with the Product Liability Act: - for the retail trader and downstream fabricator: catalogues with product and user information - for the user: Product and user information For ensuring the function of wheels and castors - the retail trader is required to observe this product information and the user information and, if necessary, to request it from the manufacturer and to hand it over to the downstream fabricator - fabricators are required to observe this product information and the user information and, if necessary, to request it from the manufacturer or retail trader and to pass it on to the user Dimensions, illustrations, drawings, etc., are subject to change and are therefore non-binding. 200
