De ci si on- maki ng sup p o rt Finding the right castor 1. Load bearing capacity The dead weight of the object and the max. load are required to determine the load capacity. The static load-bearing capacities are specified in the catalogue. Load bearing capacity = Dead weight + max. additional load 3 Since only 3 of 4 wheels often have floor contact on uneven floors, gate thresholds or potholes, we recommend using this formula to calculate the load-bearing capacity. This automatically ensures an adequate safety margin. The specified load-bearing capacities are maximum values for ideal conditions. When using four wheels or more, it is possible that the load capacity of the individual wheels or castors varies. Furthermore, factors such as indoor or outdoor use and the obstacle height influence the load-bearing capacity. More information can be found on page 14. 2. Floor composition Along with the load bearing capacity, the floor surface properties significantly determine the selection of the correct wheel or castor. The following generally applies: Hard floor – soft wheel Soft floor – hard wheel for carpet/PVC/ vinyl for carpet/PVC/ vinyl, tiles Wheels with elastic tyres such as TPE or solid rubber are particularly well suited for delicate floors (e.g. parquet, tiles). Attention must be given to the manufacturer's data for the floor covering with respect to load bearing capacity, in particular for floors such as laminate or parquet. Please check floor compatibility before use. for carpet/PVC/ vinyl, tiles, sealed natural stone and wooden floor types Wheels, castors with soft treads must not be used on unsealed absorbent substrates such as stone, wood or parquet. The white oil found in TPE castors resulting from the production process can leak out and lead to contact discolouration. This oil evaporates from sealed floors without leaving any residues. Grease may leak from the rotating assembly or bearing at high temperatures. Please check floor compatibility before use. On softwood, cork or similar floor coverings, all castors may leave indentations or streaks. 3. Castor and fastening types For the castors, we distinguish between the wheel as the base, swivel castors that can rotate through 360°, swivel castors with brakes that prevent them from rolling away if necessary, and fixed castors in the direction of travel. Wheel Castor Fixed castor Depending on the object to be transported, we offer screw-on plates, back holes, (insert/threaded) pins, expanders or pegs as fastening options. Also see page 15. Plate Bolt hole Pin Threaded pin Expander Pegs 4. Wheel properties Wheels differ in size, design, tread and housing material, bearing and fastening type, as well as special variants.
