A›B B›C Adhesive tape splitter Blade holder Some of our cutting tools are also equipped with a tape splitter, for example, the SECUMAX 320. This has a reversible metal plate with two different splitting depths. The blade holder holds the blade by ensuring a constant pressed fit. The blade holder usually consists of an upper element (blade cover) and a lower element (blade carrier). Automatic blade retraction Blade slot The blade retracts into the handle as soon as it leaves the cutting material. Condition: the slider is not held tight. Safety knives with automatic blade retraction are called SECUNORM … The blade slot is at the front of the handle. The blade extends outside the handle here and gets back in again. Comfort Blade access Blade access in our safety knives with concealed blades determines the gap between handle and nose. It is always narrow enough for your finger not to pass through but also wide enough to be able to work on certain cutting materials. Blade carrier The blade is positioned on the blade carrier. It is held in place by one or more locating lobes. Some blade carriers are also equipped with a small magnet to provide extra hold to the blade when blade changing. The useful properties of a cutting tool, such as its ergonomic shape or the easy and safe blade change increase your comfort when using it. Concealed blade The cutting tool is designed so that the blade is concealed from the outside. This means maximum protection: against cut injuries and damage to the packaged goods. We call safety knives with concealed blades SECUMAX ... Cutting channel Blade category We call a specific superordinate group of blades a blade category. The designation takes place according to the shape (e.g. trapezoid blade, hooked blade etc.), area of use (e.g. industrial blade) or function (e.g. scraper blade, deburring blade). The blade access (aperture) describes the area between handle and nose, all the way to the beginning of the cutting edge. However, the contact area determined by the cutting channel goes even further. Example SECUMAX 350: the entire area where cutting material comes into contact with the knife – starting at the entrance gate (aperture) between handle and nose across the blade and up to the plastic head of the knife – is what we call “cutting channel“. Blade change Most of our cutting tools are re-usable knives. We have made blade changing as easy, safe and comfortable as possible, so that you will not hurt yourself while doing so. And so that no blades get lost while changing them. Cutting depth The cutting depth determines how deep the blade can penetrate into the cutting material. Cutting edge Blade change button With certain safety knives you can use a blade change button to initiate the blade change. We call the sharpened edge of the blade the cutting edge. We call the far end of the cutting edge the blade tip. Cutting material Blade cover The blade cover is the small plate lying on the blade. It holds the blade together with the blade carrier. In many of our cutting tools, you have to lift up the blade cover to change the blade. 146 You use your cutting tool on cutting materials. What the knife cuts particularly well is classified as “main cutting materials“. We call “secondary cutting materials“ materials that can also be cut with the tool even though the MARTOR knife has not been specially designed for this purpose.
