USING FREE ENERGY FROM OUR ENVIRONMENT WATER AS HEAT SOURCE If groundwater of reasonable depth, quantity and temperature is available, the highest annual coefficient of performance can be achieved as a result. A constant temperature of 8-12°C guarantees optimum heating operation. This requires two wells: a production well and a discharge well. The discharge well should be located at least 15 metres away from the production well in the direction of groundwater flow. The required amount of groundwater is about 250 litres per hour for 1 kW heating capacity. The yield is to be proven using a continuous pumping test. Certain limit values of the constituents of the water must not be exceeded or undershot; a water analysis must therefore be performed. A water permit is required. 255
