Ropes specially made for such purposes and subject to special safety regulations are commercially available. VORMANN specifies load values for its ropes. These are specific working load or lifting capacity values for each rope. The values indicated are safety values of about 12.5 % of the breaking force. This means that the breaking force of the rope is the load value multiplied by 8. (Example: if the load value is 130 kg, the breaking force will be 1040 kg). The load values specified by VORMANN refer to brand-new, unused ropes! All values indicated are average values from recent tests and subject to material-specific fluctuation within a tolerance margin of +/- 5% for ropes made of synthetic fibres and +/- 10% for ropes made of natural fibres 14 Knots may reduce the tensile strength of ropes by up to 60%! Depending on the loads to which a rope is subjected, expansion of the rope is possible. Apart from the load, the amount of expansion also depends on the structure of the rope and the material of which it is made. Twisted ropes expand more than braided ropes. New ropes expand more than used ropes. The expansion behaviour (as well as the breaking force) are also influenced by moisture, soiling and ageing. Avoid sharp edges. Ropes may be damaged by being pulled over corners and sharp edges. Therefore use edge guards whereever possible.
