This is a standard that defines the general requirements for ergonomics, harmlessness, size design, compatibility and marking of protective clothing and information requirements to be provided by the manufacturer of protective clothing. It is expected that the standard will be used in combination with other standards that contain specific requirements. STANDARDS EN ISO 13688 PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS EN TYPES OF STANDARDS AND CERTIFICATES USED IN HOEGERT CLOTHES EN ISO 20471 HIGH-VISIBILITY CLOTHING STANDARD This is a standard that specifies requirements for high visibility clothing that can indicate the presence of user. High visibility of clothing is designed to provide the user with security through excellent visibility for vehicle operators or other mechanical devices, in both daylight and in vehicle headlights at night. It includes requirements related to color, reflectivity and material utilization of protective clothing. This standard replaced EN471: 2003 + A1: 2007 by introducing the following changes: eliminates the difference between professional and non-professional use; refers to risk assessment and analysis when choosing appropriate clothing to work at high risk environment; will keep the classification into three classes based on the minimum surface area of high visibility material: fluorescent and reflective. The minimum required area of high visibility material in m² EN ISO 20471 x=class Clothing class 3 Clothing class 2 Clothing class 1 Background material 0,80 0,50 0,14 Reflective material 0,20 0,13 0,10 – – Material with combined properties 0,20 the lack of reflective vertical stripes can not be considered as compliant with the standard; the area covered with symbols, logos and letters should be excluded in the calculations; reflective tapes must be on all relevant places (chest, arms, legs) with a minimum 50 mm wide; eliminates the need for a separate material for class 1 clothing (EN 471); next to the pictogram, one should put a number indicating the clothing class x; information about the maximum washing cycle must appear as information for the user. LABELLING it is required that a number indicating the clothing class is indicated next to the pictogram; the standard imposes an obligation to inform the user about the maximum number of cycles and the washing method that can be used for clothing while maintaining an appropriate level of protection. The maximum number of washes must be indicated on the label, but only if this information is included in the user's manual. INFORMATION FOR THE USER In case where there is a maximum number of washes in the manual, there should be also appear information that it is not the only factor that determines durability of clothing. 171
