SEALING MATERIAL "OHA-SPECIAL" Under no circumstances should screws be screwed into the gasket, or they may be pierced by force, as cracks may occur which will not ensure a later "tightness". After inserting the gasket, the screws must be installed and tightened so that a play-free contact of the connecting elements is provided. Check the seal centering once again and tighten the screws. Tighten the screws are in two to three passes "over Cross " uniformly to achieve a uniform surface pressure. In the first stage, the flange screws with approx. 50%, then with approx. 80% and ultimately attracted with 100% of the recommended torque. The tightening should be perceptibly reach until to the maximum tightening force respectively. This ensures a secure and permanent seal. Simply put, the gasket must be compressed by approximately 50%, i.e. a 2 mm thick gasket should be pressed to a endthickness of about 1 mm. This can be very easily controlled via the gap between the flanges. All screws must have the specified tension, therefore the tightening torque must be checked several times. As a minimum surface pressure in the installed state, approximately 30 N / mm2 must be applied. Tightening with a torque wrench or more precise methods is recommended but can be restricted to special cases at high pressures and temperatures or critical installation conditions. When these instructions are observed, it is usually not necessary to tighten the seals. If at all a retightening, then only during the start-up phase of the pipeline or system. Prevention of case of damage The compressible and spring-back flat gasket should compensate for unevenness of the flanges, must be media-resistant and temperature-resistant and with stand the loads acting on it by flange screw forces and internal pressure.
