Pump principles Pump principles Pump types The hard worker The different functional principles Vane pump The key aspect of each pump is the way it works — it determines which fundamental advantages a pump offers. On the following double page spread, we present our main pump types and their working principle. The rotor of the vane pump consists of a solid disc in which the vanes are inserted. With each rotation, the vanes are moved in and back out of the rotor. This constant change in volume generates the desired suction or pressure. The robust one Centrifugal pump ADVANTAGES Centrifugal pumps, also called rotary pumps, use the suction effect generated by a rotating impeller to convey liquids – by making use of the flow properties of liquids. Rotation of the impeller causes the pressure to drop at the center and rise at the edge of the impeller. High pump capacity Low noise emissions Self-priming The following pumps use the internal gear pump principle: • Gear Pump TZ (from page 38). The following pumps use the hybrid pump principle: • HORNET W 85 H (from page 30). ADVANTAGES Durable and low-wear Easy to handle, light Easy to repair The strong one The multi-talent Internal gear pump Hybrid pump The internal gear pump has two gears, of which the outer one (ring gear) has internal teeth. The internal gear is smaller. The fluid is conveyed in the spaces between the tooth gaps of the two gears. Internal gear pumps are also called sickle pumps. The hybrid pump combines the advantages of centrifugal and vane pumps: It functions as a self-priming vane pump in start-up mode and then folds in the vanes in the conveying process to exploit the flow characteristic of the medium as a centrifugal pump (which results in low wear). ADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES Able to generate high pressures Reliable and simple working principle 8 High pump capacity The following pumps use the centrifugal pump principle: Low noise emissions The following pumps use the vane pump principle • TecPump 400 (from page 22) • HORNET 40 (from page 18). Self-priming • TecPump 600 (from page 26) • VISCONET II (from page 34) Durable and low-wear Self-priming www.tecalemit.de/en 9
