CLEAN AIR SOLUTIONS ELMINATING THE SOURCE OF IGNITION Whether you are working in a wood shop or metal working facility, there exists on every surface and every crevice a potential explosive danger. In this scenario it only takes a single spark to ignite a dust explosion. Dust is a by-product of many types of manufacturing processes and can range in size from large chip to fine dust. Regardless of its size, all dust is potentially combustible but it’s the fine dust that can become an explosive hazard. The conditions that exist to make fine dust explosive are as follows: 1 - A source of ignition. 2 - Fine dust is dispersed into the air. 3 - The dispersion mixes the dust with oxygen. 4 - Fully or partially contained structure or building. 1 2 As you review the pictures shown to the right, we are representing a non-certified conveyor belt motor which had an internal collision and caused a spark to exit the housing. This spark is now considered the “Source of Ignition” in what was a dust explosion in the final picture #4. While this single explosion can be deadly, it’s the 3 chain reaction of explosions that can cause great destruction throughout a facility. By going with Dynabrade's Class II, Division 2 (Non-Metallic Dust) or our Class II, Division 1 (Metallic Dust) Certified systems, we are ensuring that our equipment will NOT be the potential source of ignition. Our systems have been designed to meet the NFPA Standards that have been developed for the proper and safe way to collect these hazardous dusts. These certified systems have been tested through a third party lab and 4 have been approved for the use in these hazardous locations.
