Polyethylene, high-strength PE (brand names: Dyneema, Spectra) is a new, high-strength polyethylene fibre with a very low specific weight, but five times as strong as polyamide or polyester (at the same weight). Due to this fact, Dyneema is buoyant and has the lowest ultimate elongation of all synthetic fibres. It has the best resistance to chemicals of all chemical fibres. Even if, due to competing criteria (strength, elongation, temperature stability, price, etc.), a clear decision is not possible, it is only possible to make an optimum choice for a particular field of use by studying the comparative tables and carefully weighing up the most important properties for the particular purpose. Information for your safety The ropes in this catalogue are not approved for commercial purposes or for securing persons. The recommended carrying capacity is a calculated value based on the max. load at rupture and an eightfold safety factor in the case of natural/synthetic fibre ropes and a fivefold safety factor in the case of steel ropes. They relate to a static load on brandnew, unused ropes. All technical data, especially on loads and carrying capacities, are given generally without guarantee. The articles must be checked for their suitability for the purpose in mind before use. The rope must be protected against sharp edges and other damage. Knots reduce the strength of ropes (see table below). A rope’s lengthening depends on environmental influences, such as humidity and temperature. Depending on the load, ropes can be lengthened or shortened Take environmental influences into consideration (see table below).
