Areas of application Product application areas The following code is designed to help you work out which products are suitable for which application areas. We make a distinction between three different areas of use: indoor use, outdoor use and heavy-duty construction site use. Items that are suitable for heavy-duty construction site use can also automatically be used for indoor and outdoor applications. For use on industrial construction sites IP44 industrial construction site For this application area, the materials we use are subject to particular requirements in addition to those stipulating impermeability to foreign bodies larger than 1 mm and protection against splash water. Products used on construction sites must be especially break-proof and impact-resistant. Furthermore, only electrical cables with “H07RN-F” or “H07BQ-F” qualities are permitted, in accordance with DGUV Information 203-006/BGI 608. “H05RN-F” or “H05BQ-F” is also permissible up to a cable length of 5 m (e.g. cables for lamps). For outdoor use IP44 outdoor use It is recommended to use a protection class of IP44 or higher for outdoor use. The first “4” indicates that the product is protected against the ingress of solid foreign bodies larger than 1 mm. The second “4” indicates that the product is adequately sealed, meaning that it is protected against splash water on all sides. Products with the protection class IP44 for outdoor use are usually of equivalent quality to those for use on construction sites. There are, however, some standards and guidelines for products used on construction sites that are not complied with by all products with the protection class IP44 for outdoor use. © terra24 For indoor use IP20 indoor use Protection class IP20 means that the product is not protected against the ingress of water but is protected against the ingress of solid objects larger than 12.5 mm in diameter.
